/ A System at a Crossroads

How do you bring seismic change to an industry entrenched in legacy practices and attitudes that are out of step with the times?

That was the heady challenge The Provincial Forest Advisory Council (PFAC) faced.

/ Challenging the status quo

PFAC, an independent body, was appointed by the BC government to identify and recommend a new, more stable forestry system. A system that fosters resilient communities, and respects First Nations rights and title. One that supports sustainable economies and protects forest ecosystems.

With so many conflicting opinions and diverse, interested, and invested parties, PFAC had to ensure there was a plan in place to engage, listen and make recommendations that reflected the realities of today, and tomorrow. Our team helped ensure the work was communicated and presented in a way that was clear, effective and would resonate with countless audiences.

/ Guiding a new framework for land care

Our team created a robust communication and engagement strategy for PFAC’s province-wide outreach to stakeholders, including engagement with First Nations. We managed an ever-evolving feedback report so PFAC could track opinions and identify roadblocks.

Planning was key to ensuring the important work of PFAC was understood, and that people with ideas and experiences to share were heard.

We developed risk-management strategies, managed the public information flow, coordinated distribution platforms, monitored media and handled media relations.

/ Changing the conversation, and the future

Once PFAC had established its recommendations, we turned them into an impactful digital and printed report. Our team handled the launch of the report, from planning and executing a stakeholder briefing and news conference, to developing a digital presentation, preparing press kits, working with media and filming the event.

The report created waves across BC. It was covered by news outlets province-wide and reviewed by countless organizations and community-level groups interested in the health of our forests.

PFAC’s final report marked a collective awakening and acknowledgement that the current forestry system wasn’t working for anyone. That the days of conflicting interests must end, and we must fundamentally reimagine our relationship with the land, and with each other. As CHEK news reported, “The BC Forest industry must transform dramatically to survive.”

The report is now in the hands of the BC government, ready to shape the future of forestry.
